Symmetrical Figure Drawing

For Figure Designs class today, I continued the speed figure drawing but it was different than before because I had to draw those figures using a line in the middle to create a symmetrical drawing. Most of the people ignore the composition of subject on the paper when they are too focusing in finishing the drawing instead of looking the whole area of drawing. By using the symmetrical line, I were able to place the subject in the middle area of work space and it was really satisfying.

These are the basic poses and were drawn based on the middle line to keep the subjects stay on the middle of the paper.

After the basic stand front and side poses, I did some perspective drawings but still using the rule of symmetrical line.

As the symmetrical line, the subjects also fit the paper perfectly with suitable placement within the work space. The subjects got more spaces between the side of the paper and I were able to keep them centered.

 

The other symmetrical drawing that I did was a drawing of of a face, by side view.

The symmetrical line was invisibly created in the middle to ease things for me when I tried to draw the side of the face.

In the end of the class, I tried to draw the actions of the models by using line to show the movement.

Basic hand-waving movement, by using the arc line I were able to create an illusion of the hands moving.

Conclusion, although speed drawing requires fast observation and quick draw, it is essential to place the subject in the middle to show the perfect composition within the work space and it helps the artist to create more exact drawing of the real life figures.
